About Gary
Gary Ballew was born the son of a charismatic pastor and a musically gifted mother. He wrote his first song at 8 years of age and performed it at his dad's church in the California Bay Area. A natural harmony singer, Gary formed several groups in college, including a dynamic duo with his very talented sister Lisa.
Gary is a national recording artist, evangelist, psalmist, accomplished songwriter, producer, teacher, speaker, and award winning vocalist. As lead singer of the popular group Brothers Forever, he has been nominated for "Group of the Year" 3X including the Christian Music Hall of Fame Awards, and most recently received a 1st round nomination for "Song of the Year" at the Gospel Music Association Dove Awards (the Christian music industry's highest honor). With Brothers Forever, Gary toured extensively and gained recognition as the voice behind such hit songs as ‘I Feel a Blessing Coming On’, ‘Whenever I Speak His Name’, ‘More Than That’, ‘John the Revelator’, ‘That’s Why I Pray’ and ‘God is Good’.
The group had Four #1 radio singles and 6 Top 20 radio singles on multiple industry charts.
Gary has composed over 45 songs including two #1 radio singles: ‘More Than That’ and his signature song ‘I Feel A Blessing Coming On’. He has recorded 14 music projects in all...including ‘The Essential Collection’ (2020)...just released.
Gary was the Male Vocalist winner at the National Quartet Convention Talent Showcase in 1998. He also won the Best Overall Performance Award at the 1998 Western States Gospel Music Association Awards. Gary was the (’Exalting Him’ West Coast Wildcard Finalist in 2006 w/ over 4,000 national entries in what was the largest Gospel music talent competition in the USA at the time.
Gary has appeared on Trinity Broadcasting Network, at the Christian Music Hall of Fame, the National Quartet Convention, CBS Television Network(Hollywood, CA), at the Kentucky Opry, at the Crystal Cathedral, United Christian Broadcasting Network(California) ,NRB Network, Babbie's House, and in hundreds of churches, worship conferences, Gospel Music/Youth Conventions, Festivals, Royal Caribbean Cruise, ‘Relay for Life’ cancer benefit events, Anti Drug benefit shows, Assemblies of God State/District Meetings, County Fairs, Artist Music Guild Award Show, Hawaiian Catamaran Cruise, and various music events throughout the United States, Mexico, Bahamas, and Canada.
Gary is an ordained minister. He has been invited to sing and speak all over the world. He has ministered for the past 38 years in more than 48 denominations. In both his solo ministry and as a member of Brothers Forever, he has led thousands of souls to commit their lives to Christ.
Gary attended and graduated from Vanguard University with a B.A. Degree in Sociology and finished his post graduate work at Chapman University with an emphasis in Education. He was a Teacher and an Administrator for 13 years in California.
He is the husband of 28 years to Cyndi and they have 2 daughters, Alexis and Madison, a son in law, Noah and their 1st grandchild...Ava Marie(born on Sept 11, 2020)
2 more grandkids were added in 2022 (Luke) and in 2023 (Ezra). Life is full and always an adventure in the Ballew house.
The mission and purpose of Gary's ministry is to lift up the name of Jesus through song, the Word, and testimony so that His Spirit would move in the concerts, the audience would feel it, be ministered to and be encouraged. This is the highest calling.
His latest project ‘NEXT’ released on May19, 2019. The album features some of Nashville’s finest musicians including Gordon Mote, Mark Hill, Danny Radar, Steve Brewster and Kelly Back. The musical ride is an eclectic mix of Praise and Worship, Contemporary, Country, Black Gospel, and Southern Gospel style w/Gary’s soulful, anointed, emotion drenched vocals leading the way.
